Program

Dismiss your Cedar County Minor Traffic Citation by attending an 8-hour Defensive Driving Course sponsored by the Cedar County Attorney's Office and the Nebraska Safety Council, Inc., in Lincoln, Nebraska (this office only recognizes participation through the Lincoln chapter of the Nebraska Safety Council).

By taking the Safety Training Option Program, or S.T.O.P., you will not incur a fine, there will be no court appearance, no points will be assessed against your license, and you will improve your driving habits.

YOU ARE ELIGIBLE if your Cedar County citation was for:

	Speeding (not more than 19 m.p.h. over speed limit)
	Failure to yield right-of-way
	Disregarding traffic signs & signals
	Wrong way, wrong side or improper passing
	Following too closely
	Driving too fast for conditions
	Improper turns, backing or lane changes
	Improper use of a school permit
	Exhibition of acceleration
	Negligent/careless driving

You may only participate in the S.T.O.P. Program once in a 3-year period.

YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE if your Cedar County citation was for:

	Major traffic citations (leaving the scene of an accident, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, willful reckless or reckless driving)
	Parking tickets
	Injury accidents
	CDL Operator's License Holder (Click here for explanation)
	Speed Competition
	No insurance
	Citations for multiple violations, except for: proof of insurance not in vehicle, valid driver's license not on person, not wearing a seatbelt, or valid registration not in vehicle.

The County Attorney has the right to refuse or accept any individual.

Course Registration Fee: $135.00 PLUS COURT COSTS ($44.00)

MUST BE PREPAID * NON-REFUNDABLE

WHEN TO ENROLL:

Total registration for the S.T.O.P. Program MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO SEVEN (7) DAYS before your court date or you will need to appear in court.

Total registration includes having the completed paperwork in the Nebraska Safety Council, Inc., offices via person or mail.

You must complete the program within 45 DAYS after receipt of the citation.

WHAT TO SEND: Fee, Citation, Copy of Driver's License, Social Security Number, and Daytime Phone Number.

CDL Disqualification: Pursuant to Neb.Rev.Stat. §60-4,147.01, Driver's record; disclosure of convictions; requirements: "The Department of Motor Vehicles, a prosecutor, or a court must not mask, defer imposition of judgment, or allow an individual to enter into a diversion program that would prevent a commercial driver's license driver's conviction for any violation, in any type of motor vehicle, of a state or local traffic control law (except a parking violation) from appearing on the driver's record, whether the driver was convicted for an offense committed in the state where the driver is licensed or another state."
